Is meditation really worth it?

We get it -- meditation does not come easy for most of us.

Meditation can feel boring, confusing, and even frustrating. We struggle with being still and trying to place our mind on one (not always exciting) object. The mind gets sleepy and distracted, and then our knees hurt.

So is it worth it to keep showing up to the cushion, day after day, trying to work with our finicky and often distracted minds?

Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and could be called the root practice of Yoga and Buddhism, as well as other traditions. It's certainly not a fad. The fact that this practice has lasted for so long points to its importance and benefits, and that it can provide the potential to transform our minds, even today.

So, yeah. We at Sama certainly think it's worth it. ☺️

Think about it: our minds influence every single moment of our day. Consider the fact that the same experience on two different days can be felt very differently, depending on whether your mind is clear and content or bitter and irritable.

This is one major argument for meditation: Wouldn't it make sense to get to know and even develop this powerful tool of perception and interpretation?

It you're new to the practice but intrigued, know that our meditation classes at Sama are designed to be completely accessible for those new to the practice, while also providing community and an opportunity for deepening for those with an established practice.

Each thirty-minute class begins with a short introduction and ends with a discussion so you can share insights, questions, and experiences with your peers and a skilled meditation teacher.

We invite you to join us for a meditation class this week, either virtually or in studio, and learn more about this powerful practice.

Give it a try. We can't wait to meditate with you!
